Our History

Alliance Center for Education, formerly known as Bethlehem Center of Charlotte, was founded by the United Methodist Women in 1940. The Center began in the Brooklyn community to address the needs of innercity women and children whose income was at or below the poverty level. In 1956, the organization expanded to serve the neighborhoods of Southside, Brookhill and Wilmore, providing one Charlotte’s first free kindergarten programs, activities for school-age children, and other quality family enrichment services. Today, AC4Ed has 12 center locations located throughout Mecklenburg County, providing high-quality educational services to over 800 children each day.

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide high-quality education and support for children in need through partnership with their families.

What We Do

The Alliance Center for Education works with children and families to break the cycle of poverty by providing a continuum of high quality educational and support services. Founded by United Methodist Women in 1940, AC4Ed has improved economic mobility for thousands of children through early childhood development and K-12 year-round programming.

Jared Keaton

Chief Executive Officer

Jared Keaton started his career at Alliance Center of Education in 1998, as a member of the Center’s Accounting Team. Being recognized as a mission-first leader, Jared was quickly promoted and has led the organization through several growth cycles as Controller, Assistant Executive Director, and Chief Operating Officer.

Today, as the Chief Executive Officer, Jared continues to elevate the organization’s mission of helping children from birth to high school graduation access quality educational services. All nine of organization’s Early Childhood Education centers hold a 5-Star Childcare Center License from the State of North Carolina, which is just one reason AC4Ed has become Charlotte’s preferred provider of Early Childhood Education services.
