Join us in supporting and celebrating literacy!

Leading up to the BIG Read on April 1, 2026, we are
seeking your support in restocking and renewing our
classroom bookshelves.

Until April 1, 2026, you can drop off a new book at one of our locations or at our bookshelves placed around Charlotte at:

Optimist Hall

Summit Coffee (3 locations)

SCOR (101 S Tryon St)
Piedmont Unitarian Universalist Church

To see what books we need or to send a book directly to us, see Our Amazon Wishlist

Can't drop off a book but still want to participate?

Make a direct donation to help restock and renew our libraries. All donations will be used to support our programs. Additionally, you can purchase a book through our Amazon Wishlist and it will be delivered directly to us.

Looking to Volunteer with us?

Once we have collected the books, we need help sorting them and then refreshing our bookshelves. Click here to sign up for opportunities the week of April 6-9, 2026. If you have a group or need more information, contact Meka Turner at volunteerrequests@ac4ed.org.

Reading has many benefits to children's growth and development!

Brain & Language Development

Reading with young children strengthens brain connections and helps build vocabulary, listening, and communication skills.

Early School Success

Children engaging with books early are more
likely to enter kindergarten ready to learn, with stronger comprehension skills.

Social & Emotional Growth

Stories help children understand emotions,
practice empathy, and learn about relationships
and problem‑solving.

Promotes Equity & Opportunity

Access to books at a young age helps close achievement gaps and supports children from
all backgrounds.

Creates Confident, Lifelong Readers

Positive early reading experiences build
confidence and foster a love of books that
can last a lifetime.
